UCL: Is this the English Premier League Year?

English teams seem to understand what it takes to survive the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

The group stage of this season UCL has been concluded and all English teams made it to the round of 16. Other leagues have one or two teams that didn’t make it to the next round of the competition.

Out of the top leagues in Europe, Spain only have 3 teams in the Knockout stages after Valencia didn’t make it, Germany has 3 after Hoffenheim couldn’t make it and Italy has 2 after Napoli and Inter Milan were both knocked out.

Although there are high chances that 2 English team will meet in the round of 16 due to the fact that 3 out of the 4 teams finished in second place in their respective groups.

The last English club side to win the UCL trophy is Chelsea and that was the 2011/2012 season and since then the Spanish teams have dominated the competition. Liverpool was the runners-up last year losing to Real Madrid in the final.

It is been too long a team in England parade the country with the UCL trophy but with the current form of Manchester City and Liverpool, it is no doubt that these 2 teams are part of the favorite in this year Champions League.

Manchester United’s form is not that good and Tottenham are not that experienced in the competition but none of this 2 can be overlooked in the race.

Spanish teams have won the trophy more with 18 while England and Italy are tied on 12 each.
