44-year-old teacher jailed for having Sex with a Minor

A 44-year-old teacher identified as, Johnny Yelverton, is facing three years’ probation for having sex with a 17-year-old student.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office, USA, in May confirmed Yelverton was charged with six counts of unlawful sexual relations and one count sexual exploitation of a child.

A probable cause affidavit released in June 2018 says the case against Yelverton began May 6 when a Maize police officer responded to the request to contact parents of a 17-year-old in reference to an indecent liberties case.
The officer learned the teen was spotted in a car with Yelverton, her teacher.

The teen later admitted that she and the former Maize High School had been in a relationship.

Wednesday a Sedgwick County District Court judge sentenced Yelverton to 36 months’ probation with an underlying sentence of 32 months in prison. This means that if Yelverton violates terms of his probation, he could go to prison for about two years, eight months.
