Acting CJN swears in 250 Members of Elections Tribunal

The Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed, has just sworn in 250 members of the general election tribunals.

At the swearing-in ceremony which took place in Abuja on Saturday, the acting CJN urged the members of the election tribunals to discharge their duties with integrity as well as the fear of God.

Muhammad was sworn-in by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday afternoon shortly after announcing the suspension of the substantive CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, who is facing charges of corruption before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

According to the president, the suspension was based on the request of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, pending the completion of Onnoghen’s trial.

The election petition tribunals will be expected to handle disagreements that may arise from the conduct of the elections which begin in three weeks.
