Barcelona might be kicked out of Copa del Rey

Barcelona might be kicked out of Copa del Rey despite last nights round of 16 emphatic 3-0 victory against Levante at the Camp Nou.

Ousmane Dembele’s brace and a second-half goal from Lionel Messi ensured Barcelona beat Levante 3-0 at Camp Nou, as they comfortably overturned a first-leg deficit to progress to the Copa del Rey quarter-finals.

But all that may be wasted effort, as the Catalan giants are at risk of being kicked out of the competition.

Levante president Quico Catalan has confirmed that his team will make an official complaint to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) over irregularities in Barcelona’s Copa del Rey team last week.

The Valencia side caused a huge upset in the last 16 by downing Barcelona 2-1 in the first leg.

Barcelona B defender Chumi, who played the first 58 minutes of the first leg, should have been suspended after picking up a fifth booking in the Segunda Division B.

The Catalans argued that they believed the suspension was only valid for league games, a posture later denied by the RFEF.

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde insisted he is unconcerned over Levante’s official complaint regarding their selection of Chumi in the first leg of their Copa del Rey clash.

“We have no doubt about Chumi,” he told reporters in his post-match news conference.

“Not before, not after, or during.

“We believe that tomorrow we must be in the draw. We are sure that we did it well.

“We knew perfectly well that Chumi was sanctioned, he could not be used in the match against Eibar [in La Liga].

“We are convinced of what we have done. We have acted in an absolutely correct way. We have won where we had to win. It is very clear.”
