Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen absent as his corruption Trial begins

Walter Onnoghen, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), was absent today, as the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) commenced sitting at 10 am.

He had been summoned for not declaring his asset, following a petition submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) by a civil society group identified as the Anti-Corruption and Research-Based Data Initiative (ARDI).

He later admitted his mistake and blamed it on forgetfulness. Meanwhile, at least 47 lawyers, including five senior advocates of Nigeria (SANs), were at the CCT to defend him.
