Coach accused of Sexually abusing boys dies minutes before Trial

A football coach, Michael ‘Kit’ Carson, who was accused of sexually abusing boys has died 16 minutes before standing trial.

The 75-year-old former youth coach died in a car crash minutes before he was due in court.

The Peterborough Crown Court was told by Jeremy Benson, prosecuting, that Carson had died.

The coach and talent scout had earlier denied 12 counts of indecent assault and one of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He died after he veered off the A303 near Bottisham, Cambridgeshire, and collided with a tree. Benson said that no other vehicle was involved in the collision and that Carson was the fatality.

Inspector Amarjit Singh QPM told the court the body of Carson was formally identified by his wife Pauline Carson. Judge Matthew Lowe ruled that the case file should be closed.

Carson, of St Bartholomew’s Court, Riverside, Cambridge, had been on bail.

A police spokesman said:

“Emergency services attempted to save Mr Carson’s life but he was declared dead at the scene a short time later. “No other vehicle or person was involved in the collision.”
