#EkitiMourns: Truck carrying APC-branded bags of rice allegedly Crushed 20 People to Death in Ekiti

Yesterday LP reported that a truck rammed into an Ekiti market, and it’s been gathered that the truck was allegedly carrying APC-branded bags of rice before the incident which led to the death of 20 people.

The truck carrying APC-branded bags of rice and was en route the Ifaki-Iworoko road in Ado Ekiti also knocked off an 18-seater Toyota bus and a Toyota Corolla car. The accident caused heavy traffic in the area, as the truck rammed into the market which was close to the road in Iworoko while traders were still selling.

Police spokesperson for the state, Caleb Ikechukwu who confirmed the incident said;

“The accident actually happened at Iworoko road in Ado Ekiti just this evening and I heard that there were causalities, but I cannot give figures. I am yet to get proper briefing about it. I learnt that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of that area is now on his way to the scene. So, I cannot give you the details, until he is back to brief us”

The truck crushed three shops and a commercial small bus, which had some passengers. One of the shops, a barbing saloon, has residents and students charging their cell phones inside it. They were all trapped in the accident. Among the victims were students of the Ekiti State University, a corps member, residents, traders in the area and a mother and child.
