Man arrested by Police for robbing churchgoer in Niger

A 26-year-old robbery suspect, Peter Sunday, has been arrested by the Police for robbing churchgoer in Niger State.

According to reports, Sunday attacked and robbed one Mrs Felicia Chukwu of the Kwankwashe area, Madalla, Suleja Local Government Area of the state.

Sunday, who resides in Bakin Kasuwa, and his accomplice, identified as Nura, now at large, allegedly robbed their victim, who was returning from the church of N12,000 and one Gionee mobile phone valued at N56,000.

The incident reportedly happened on January 1, 2019.

Northern City News gathered that the suspect and his accomplices had been making life unbearable for the residents of Bakin Kasuwa in Suleja and its environs.

The suspect told our correspondent that he and his accomplice usually attack those returning from work, places of worship and markets.

He said

“We arm ourselves with cutlasses, knives and other dangerous weapons to attack our victims. Some of our victims usually cooperate with us during operations; we inflict injuries on those who resist us.

“We trap our victims at a particular location and I have been doing this for the past three years.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident on Sunday, saying that the suspect confessed to have conspired with his accomplice to rob Chukwu at Madalla, Suleja.

Abubakar said the operatives recovered from him one cutlass while efforts were on to apprehend the fleeing accomplice.

He added that the matter would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
