A 30yr old woman, Ndifreke Femi, has been placed on trial at a Lagos High Court in Igbosere for allegedly stabbing her neighbour Ayomide Ayenuwa to death.

28-year-old Ayenuwa, a part-time student, was stabbed to death at Femi’s Block 109, Ikota Housing Estate residence, Ajah, Lagos, on April 1, 2016.

According to Esther Jeje, first prosecution witness in the case, who said Ayenuwa is her uncle, the young man met his death when he went to Femi’s apartment next-door to iron out an issue on his monthly electricity bill.

She said her uncle was stabbed in the neck after Femi rushed into the kitchen to grab a knife when he met them in the middle of a domestic scuffle.

“Ayenuwa made efforts to settle the quarrelling couple but they kept fighting each other so he decided to leave them to their troubles. As he was walking away, Ndifreke brought out a knife which she used to stab him on his neck from behind,” the witness said.

Jeje, however, admitted that her account is based on narration from her neighbour because she was not around to witness the scene.

Despite frantic efforts by other neighbours to save Ayenuwa’s life, he died on the way to the General Hospital due to loss of too much blood.

Further hearing has been fixed for April 17, 2019, by Justice Mobolanle Okikiolu-Ighile.
