#AFCON2019: Algeria are the Champions of Africa

The Desert Warriors of Algeria have won the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt after defeating Senegal in the final of the competition.

Baghdad Bounedjah scored the only goal of the intense match in the 2nd minute after his shot was deflected past the Senegalese goalkeeper. The Senegalese came all out after conceding the goal but couldn’t get the ball into the Algerian net.

There was a VAR highlight in the match after the referee awarded a Penalty Kick for Senegal but later changed the decision due to a VAR check. This is the second time Algerian have defeated Senegal in the tournament after both teams met earlier in the group stage. Algeria won the match with a lone goal.

The Desert Warriors of Algeria have now won the AFCON for the second time in the competition history, the first time was 1990 while the Teranga Lions of Senegal will have to try to win the competition for a record first time in 2021.
