Benue police confirm Lynching of three suspected Armed Robbers, warns residents against Jungle Justice

The Benue State Police Command has warned residents against taking laws into their hands and dishing out jungle justice on suspects.

The spokesperson, DSP Anene Sewuese Catherine stated this is in a statement on Monday, September 30, after the lynching of three suspected armed robbers-serial killers in Ushongo Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesperson displayed Items recovered from the suspects including; three locally made pistols, four live ammunition, one face mask, four phones, one camouflage trouser and P-cap.

Full statement below:

“On 29/09/2019 at about 0600hrs while Police operatives were In Ushongo Local Government Area on an Operation, information was received that armed robbers were Operating at the same Gbatse village where kidnap suspects were arrested and corpses of victims exhumed on 23/09/2019. The Police team rushed to the scene and chased the robbers into the bush where an angry mob ambushed and lynched three of the suspects. Items recovered from the suspects include; three locally made pistols, four live ammunition, one face mask, four phones, one camouflage trouser and P-cap. The Corpses have been deposited at Benue State University Teaching hospital morgue, Makurdi.
There is no doubt that Ushongo and other neighboring Local Government Areas are faced with security challenges however, the police is committed to ensuring safety of lives and properties in these areas. This is evident in series of operations that are being carried out by the Police in these areas. Members of the public are advised to be patient and give useful information to police operatives.
such barbaric act of taking laws into their hands is an offence against the law and can attract sanction. It can also lead to lost of innocent lives. The command warns the good people of Benue state to desist from such acts and allow the law to take its course in all situations.
