Fake Medical Doctor arrested for impersonation of ACP in Kano; confesses to performing Series of Surgeries

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a fake medical doctor, Mohammed Aliyu, who allegedly impersonated an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in the state.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, June 7, said Aliyu, 45, also confessed to having performed a series of surgical operations, injected and prescribed drugs to many patients.

Kiyawa said the suspect was arrested at a hotel in the Hotoro Mariri Quarters of the state while parading himself as an ACP and younger brother of a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nassarawa Division.

“On the 02/07/2021 at about 1800hrs, credible information received revealed that one Mohammed Aliyu, ‘m’, 45 years old, of Hotoro Mariri Quarters Kano paraded himself as an Assistant Commissioner of Police and went to a Hotel in Kano Metropolis and requested for a room accommodation in order to lodge some of his guests coming from Kaduna and other parts of the country, and that, he wants a discount being a Superior Police Officer of the Rank of an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)” Kiyawa stated.

“He equally tendered a complimentary card to the Hotel Manager bearing his name as an Assistant Commissioner of Police and at the same time the Squadron Commander of 52 PMF Challawa, Kano. He further stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nassarawa Division is his younger brother in Nigeria Police Force and at one time served under his office. Having observed a suspicious approach, the Manager of the Hotel immediately informed the Police.

The Commissioner of Police Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, fsi raised and instructed team of policemen led by DPO Nassarawa, SP Daniel Itse Amah to proceed to the scene. The team swung into action and found out that, the suspect was a fake Assistant Commissioner of Police. He was subsequently arrested.

On investigation, fake documents were found in possession of the suspect bearing his picture and the name, Ibrahim Muhammad Tijjani as a Medical Practitioner. He confessed that he was neither a medical doctor, nor a Police Officer, and that, he was arrested and prosecuted for impersonation as Medical Doctor. He also confessed to have involved in series of surgical operations, injects and prescribed drugs to many patients.

Kiyawa said that the State Commissioner of Police has ordered that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Command for discreet investigation, adding that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
