'Shameless' Actor and Last Comic Standing Alum Ricarlo Flanagan dies at 40 after contracting COVID

American actor and comedian, Ricarlo Flanagan, whose credits include Shameless, Insecure and Last Comin Standing, has died at the age of 40.

Flanagan died over the weekend after contracting COVID-19 several weeks ago, his agent, Stu Golfman of KMR Talent, tells PEOPLE.

‘Sadly this pandemic has taken the life of an extremely talented performer and even nicer human being,’ his agent, Stu Golfman said in a statement. ‘Ricarlo will be greatly missed.’

Flanagan addressed his battle with COVID-19 earlier this month on his Twitter page, writing, ‘This COVID is no joke. I don’t wish this on anybody.’

Flanagan’s first stormed the world of comedy happened in 2007 when he discovered a flyer on a telephone pole in Ann Arbor, Michigan, advertising for comedy classes. After attending one class, Flanagan was hooked and began pursuing a career in stand-up comedy.

In 2015, Flanagan became a semi-finalist on the ninth season of Last Comic Standing, two years after he had released his first comedy album, Man Law.

He also had roles on the Showtime series Shameless and Walk the Prank for Disney Plus, and made appearances on shows including The Carmichael Show, The Mick, Room 104, The Neighborhood and Insecure.

Flanagan also was a rapper, having put out three albums under the name Father Flanagan. According to his Twitter page, he had been slated to put out a new album titled Both Sides of the Brain on Tuesday.
