3 Ways to Reduce Chronic Lower Back Pain

Are you suffering from chronic lower back pain that keeps you from doing many of the things you once did before it got to this point? Although there are many causes, some of the most common include having a job that requires you to stand in one spot all day long, jobs that require heavy lifting, and arthritis. While there may be times a person experiences lower back pain as the result of overdoing it on the exercise floor or perhaps from an injury, those will find relief within a few days. However, chronic lower back pain is hard to live with and sadly, it only gets worse with time. Here are a few ways you can reduce that pain without the aid of prescription medications and sometimes even OTC NSAIDs as well.

1. Stretching

After you’ve stood on your feet all day long with very little movement, it seems as though your back is set in stone. The pain is unreal and all you can think to do is get to a chair to sit for a while. This may relieve the pain for the time you are sitting but once you stand up again, it will return. Instead of immediately heading for the nearest chair, try stretching a bit. There are several stretches that will help but in a pinch, you can lift your hands straight over your head, bend from the waist and touch your toes. Hold that position a few seconds and repeat several times. You’d be amazed at how this can quickly reduce the pain you are experiencing.

2. Percussive Therapy with Theragun

You would be amazed at just how much relief these little handheld devices provide. They are available in various models but one of the most popular is Theragun Prime. These handy little devices provide targeted impulses so that you can directly work the areas causing so much pain. In fact, Theragun Prime, Theragun’s handheld massager is designed with an ergonomic handle and is lightweight enough that it’s easy to use without causing additional pain.

3. Soak in a Hot Bath

Another way to soothe the pain in your back is to soak in a hot bath. Make sure the water level is well above where the pain is and take the temperature up as hot as you can stand it. It will cool off eventually, but for those first minutes your muscles will expand and that will bring almost immediate relief. Also, Epsom Salts help to draw out the tension as well and if you find the scented kind, try lavender that is also calming and soothing to the nerves.

Unless you’ve ever experienced chronic lower back pain there is no way to explain just how debilitating it can be. Even standing at the sink washing dishes becomes a monumental task that requires you to step away several times to sit for a bit of relief. Of course, you can’t do that at work if you are a bank teller or cashier, so the best thing to do is give yourself a warm bath and a Theragun treatment nightly to help keep that pain at bay. A little relief goes a very long way.
