Childhood Cancer; A growing menace to our Society.

A Pediatric Oncologist, who doubles as the Chief Medical Director at the Children General Hospital, Centre Igboro, Kwara State, Nigeria, Dr. (Mrs) Folorunsho has advised the Federal Government of Nigeria and all partners in the health sector to do more in the aspect of early detection and prevention of pediatric cancer.

This she said while addressing nursing mothers and parents of juveniles who attended the Awareness campaign lecture on pediatric cancer organized by The International Association of Lions Clubs, Kwara Axis of District 404B2 Nigeria to mark this year’s International Childhood Cancer Day in Ilorin on the 3rd of March, 2022.

She stressed the need of the parents as well to do their part in ensuring that their children get the necessary attention to be given to children so that early detection can help the medical officers do the needful to help them. She further appreciated the Lions from Kwara Axis who came all out for their constant drive of awareness to educate the populace and also thanked them for their generous donation to the hospital.

Lion Dr Kazeem Okesina who also anchored a talk session said that though cancer was more prevalent among adults, more cases are recorded daily with children now hence he advised parents to ensure they practice routine medical checkups for their wards to ensure early detection where necessary. In response, the Axis Coordinator, Lion (Prince) Adepegba Falola (NLCF) thanked the CMD and the entire hospital staff for the good works they’ve been doing and promised her, that the LIONS Club will continue to do her best to support the hospital in the fight against cancer. He also thanked the District Governor 2021/22 Lions service year, Lion Kayode Isiak Oshinuga (PMJF, NLCF) for the privilege given to the entire planning committee to serve in that capacity. Lion (Dr.) Ogedengbe Temitayo (NLCF), who is the Deputy Coordinator for the axis coordinated the entire programme and brought the programme to a close with an appreciation to all LIONS from various Clubs within Ilorin (Central, Golden, Metropolitan and Royal) as well as Offa Unity for their Support and generous donations to the cause of the less privileged
