Lion killed by hunters in Sambisa forest (Video)

Hunters in Borno state have killed a lion in Sambisa Forest, which is located in the Konduga Local Council of the state.

The lion is said to have wandered from Cameroun’s Waza Game Reserve before being apprehended and killed by hunters on March 15.

Confirming the incident in Maiduguri, the Director of Forestry and Wildlife in the state’s Ministry of Environment, Peter Ayuba, said;

“The lion might have strayed from the Game Reserve of Cameroun. We have similar incidents of elephants from the Reserve entering villages in Kala/Balge council of the state.”

Meanwhile, in new reports, there are concerns that Nigeria’s elephant population is fast depleting after local hunters shot dead the 4th elephant in Ogun State.

It was reported that the elephant was killed near Omo forest in Ogun State. According to the Elephant Protection Initiative, this is the 4th elephant illegally killed in two years.

Sharing photos of the recently killed wild animal, they wrote on their page,

Sad. Near Omo Forest, Ogun, not far from Lagos, 4th elephant illegally shot dead in 2 yrs. #Nigeria’s few elephants – c400- fast disappearing. (Elephant shot by local hunter- those in pic not responsible).
