A Twitter user has narrated how a Nigerian man was killed by a mob after he was wrongly accused of trying to abduct his own child.

According to the Twitter user identified as Barade, the man was gruesomely murdered by a mob in the presence of his children.

Giving details of the tragic incident, Barade said the man was at a mosque to pray with two of his children when one of the children began to cry because he wanted his father to buy him a sweet.

Barade said that suddenly someone shouted that he was about to steal the children, and he was immediately mobbed and killed.

In a series of Twitter threads, Barade wrote,

“About 30yrs ago, a family friend went for Jumu’ah prayers with his 2 little children. Unfortunately, it was a period when there were cases of missing children, and it happened that after prayers the little one was crying bcos he wanted the father to buy some sweets for him.

All of a sudden someone shouted that he was trying to steal a child, his own child. The crowd, that turned into a mob pounced on him and killed him right in front of his two kids. We were able to trace about 14 suspects. All of them only had the shout of “barawon yara” and joined the mob that killed him.

We were left with orphans, even though the suspects were convicted. The second case, I personally witnessed, was a period in Lagos when people were accused of stealing manhood, which claimed literarily disappeared from the body”.
