Female Teacher admits to having Sexual Relationship with Student

A female high school teacher has admitted to engaging in a sexual relationship with a student at an arraignment hearing on Thursday.

34-year-old Maren Oates, who was listed as a staff member at the Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology – resigned from the Washoe County School District in Nevada, USA, earlier this month, according to spokeswoman Victoria Campbell.

Oates is set for a sentencing hearing at 9 a.m. April 2 at Washoe District Court.

She was placed on administrative leave upon her arrest in May. Her resignation was effective as of Jan. 15, Campbell said in an email to the Reno Gazette Journal.

The Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology is recognized as one of the district’s top-performing high schools. It focuses on career and technical education, according to the school’s website.
