15 year old Pregnant Girl Married off to a 66-year-old Man in Anambra
The issue of Child Marriage is one of the menaces that is still plaguing most Africa countries. In recent time several African countries have been working on reducing the rate of Child Marriage in their country.
Nigeria, on the other hand, is yet to do anything in this respect which can be traced to religious backing of the act. The age of consent in Nigeria as at the time of this post is 11 and there are several men in the corridor of power who married child bride.
Recently, the report of a teenager forced to marry a man with Down Syndrome broke and there were several outrages online over the act.
Surprisingly there is another incident of child marriage in the same state, Anambra state but this is a different town.
Activist, Prince Harrison Gwamnishu, is currently working on the rescue of a 15-year-old girl who was married off to a 66-year-old man in Nnewi, Anambra state.
Harrison in a post shared on his Facebook page, said the girl became pregnant when she 14 and was thrown out of her house by her family. Later, the family heard of a 66-year-old man who wanted a third wife and was willing to marry the 14-year-old pregnant girl and the girl’s family married her off to the man.

This evening, we arrived Nnewi, Anambra State. We met the victim (EBUBE) and assured her of our support and safety.
She was 14, staying with her aunty when she got pregnant and was chased away. Her parents rejected her. The street became her shelter. Her family heard about a 65yrs old man (Now 66yrs) who was looking for a wife and Ebube was remembered.
#FastForward: The man has two wives, married Ebube with her pregnancy. His two wives left him and today 16yrs Ebube is a full time house wife to 66yrs old man in Nnewi.
“I stopped at JSS3, I have wanted to go but nowhere to go. If I have a shelter elsewhere, I will leave this marriage”.
