Court remands Babachir Lawal In EFCC’s Custody

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal has been granted bail by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

Babachir Lawal N50m was granted a N50 million bail.

Lawal who was sacked by President Buhari in October 2017 over alleged misappropriation of funds meant for IDPs, was yesterday arraigned before the court by the EFCC.

Babachir pleaded not guilty to the 10-count charges against him. The court ordered for them to be remanded in EFCC custody pending the determination of his bail application.

The court this morning granted Lawal and two others bail in the sums of N50m each with one surety each who must possess titles to lands within the jurisdiction of the court, show evidence of payment of tax for the past three years and must be residents within the jurisdiction of the court.

The court also ordered Babachir and the two others must deposit their international passport with the court and also remain in EFCC custody pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions.

The case was adjourned till March 18th.
