Former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose's N7.2bn trial resumes today

The trial of the embattled former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, over alleged N7.2 billion fraud charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continues today before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of Federal High Court, Lagos.

Former minister of state for defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, his former ally and party man, is testifying against him. Obanikoro was led in evidence by EFCC’s counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), at the last adjourned date.

He had narrated how he gave Fayose $5 million in cash from the national security office imprest account on the instruction Col. Sambo Dasuki, the then National Security Adviser (NSA) to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Fayose applied for an adjournment through his counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN) and Olalekan Ojo (SAN), to enable them to cross-examine Obanikoro. Consequently, Justice Olatoregun adjourned the case till February 4, 5 and 6 for the continuation of the trial, but ruled that it would be the last adjournment from the defendants until the conclusion of the trial.
