Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s hope of becoming a senator representing Oyo South senatorial district has been dashed.

The Oyo state governor whose tenure is coming to an end lost to Kola Balogun of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In the February 23 National Assembly election held in the state, Ajimobi was beaten to second by Balogun, who polled 105,720 votes, Nigeria Tribune reports.

The returning officer for Oyo South senatorial district, Prof Wole Akinsola, said Ajimobi scored a total number of 92,218 to displace Senator Soji Akanbi, who polled 49,437 votes to the third position.

Recall, that the serving Senator Soji Akanbi contested on the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC), after being forced out of the APC by the governor, who reportedly “imposed” himself as the APC candidate in the senatorial district.
