Anambra state gets first female Chief Judge, sworn in by Governor Obiano (Photos)

Hon. Justice Ijem Onwuamaegbu was yesterday sworn in as the Acting Chief Judge of Anambra State.

Hon Justice Onwuamaegbu who took over from the former Chief Judge, Hon Justice Peter Umeadi has made history as the first female Chief Judge since the creation of the state.

Swearing-in the Acting Judge in a brief ceremony at the Executive Chamber, Government House Awka, the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano expressed the optimism that the appointment would help speed up the dispensation of justice in the state.

Governor Obiano also assured the Acting Chief Judge of his administrative support to enable her to deliver on her new mandate.

Obiano, while swearing-in the Acting Judge at the Government House, Awka, pledged the support of his administration to enable the acting CJ to deliver on her new mandate.

He was optimistic that the appointment would further re-position the state judiciary to effectively address the problem of the delayed dispensation of justice.

Onwuamaegbu was later presented with logistics in relation to her status vehicle and two escorts.

Also speaking, the Attorney General of the State, Uju Nworgu hinted that the new Acting CJ was the most senior among the Judges of the state High Court.

“The 1999 Constitution under Section 2714 empowers the state Governor to appoint and swear in an Acting Chief Judge when there is vacancy,” she said.

Nworgu observed that the acting Judge had gained a wealth of knowledge and judicial experience to transform the state judiciary.

In her acceptance speech, Onwuamaegbu promised to ensure proper administration of justice as well as the promotion of the welfare of judiciary.
