Supreme Court to deliver judgement on Onnoghen’s Suspension on May 17th

Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen absent as his corruption Trial begins

The  Supreme Court has fixed May 17th 2019 as the date it will deliver judgment in the suit filed by the Cross River state government seeking to set aside the six-count charge of non-assets declaration preferred against the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen by the federal government.

The suit filed by the Attorney General of Cross River State on behalf of the state government is challenging Onnoghen ’s suspension and trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). Onnoghen was suspended from office by President Buhari in January this year after he was accused of falsely declaring his assets since he assumed office in March 2017. Onnoghen is an indigene of Cross Rivers state.

The suit filed by the Cross Rivers state government was dated January 22nd 2019, and marked SC/45/2019 has the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) as defendants.
