Tinubu warns Federal Government against VAT increase

Police stop anti-Tinubu protest in Lagos

Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has advised the Federal Government not to increase the value-added tax (VAT).

He made this known during his 67th birthday colloquium which took place in Abuja today and had in attendance Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and some State governors.

According to Tinubu, increasing VAT would only reduce the purchasing power of the people.

“I must say this to Prof Osinbajo and his team, don’t increase VAT but increase tax net to accommodate those who are not yet paying.

“Don’t reduce the people’s purchasing power,” Tinubu said.

Speaking further, he added:

“We must criticise ourselves.”
