A yet-to-be-identified woman lost her life this afternoon Sunday, April 7th after her vehicle, a Lexus SUV, plunged into the river on Ijebu-Ode/Benin Expressway.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the sad incident, said the deceased was reported to be conveying her daughter to school when the accident happened.  Akinbiyi said the accident occurred as a result of over speeding on the part of the woman, leaving her daughter injured.

“I learnt the vehicle was coming from Lekki in Lagos to Ijebu-Ode when the accident happened. There were two occupants in the vehicle, the driver who is a woman and her daughter, who is a student of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijebu Ode.

“The woman was taking her daughter back to school. As a result of excessive speeding, the woman lost control of the vehicle and plunged into the river and lost her life while her daughter sustained injuries.

The remains of the woman has been deposited at Ijebu Ode General Hospital mortuary while the injured daughter is receiving treatment at the same hospital. The vehicle has been removed from the river and deposited at the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) in Odogbolu, Abeokuta.
