EFCC arrests 13 YAHOO BOYS in Edo, recovers 3 Cars
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Office have arrested 13 suspected yahoo boys in Edo during an early morning raid at their resident in Uromi.
The suspects, who are between the ages of 20 to 35 were apprehended at their hideout in a hotel at Uromi after a tip-off.
Upon their arrest, 23 phones and three laptops were recovered from them. Three luxury cars, Lexus R330, C300 4 Matic and GLK 350 4Matic were also recovered from them.
The raid which was sequel to series of intelligence gathering by operatives of the zone is in line with the directive of the acting EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu to rid the state and indeed the entire country of internet fraud and cybercrime.
The suspects have made useful statements and will soon be charged to court.
This is coming days after the Ibadan zonal office of the EFCC on Friday arraigned one Akeredolu Oluwafemi Temidayo (a.k.a. Susan Henderson) before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court 2, sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Akeredolu, who claimed to be a graduate of Insurance from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, was arraigned on a three-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence, possession of fraudulent documents and forgery.
The accused was alleged to have contravened Sections 1, 2 and 6 of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, as well as Section 1 (2) (c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap. M17. Laws of the Federation, 2004.
Investigations revealed that he had been posing online as Susan Henderson (a woman) through which he fraudulently obtained gift cards worth $300 USD (Three Hundred United States of American Dollars) from one Ross Kirkley.
Further investigations also showed that he had obtained sundry amounts netting about $600 (Six Hundred United States of American Dollars) from other unsuspecting victims using the same gimmick.
Akeredolu, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when read to him. He was however ordered to be remanded in prison.
