Heather and Derick Jones have died after an accident that killed the two Beacon residents today happened.

The SUV Heather and Derick were in, went off I-84 westbound and crashed into a tree killing the both of them.

The crash happened between Exits 5 and 5A in the Orange County town of Montgomery.

Heather Morgan, 36, and Derick Jones, 37, both of Beacon, died today May 17th, 2019 in a one-vehicle crash, according to state police.

Morgan was driving the SUV, a Dodge Journey westbound on the interstate with Jones as a passenger, when it went off the highway and into the centre median about 6:40 a.m. before striking a tree.

Morgan and Jones were pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt for trauma injuries.

What caused the crash at this moment has not been disclosed.

According to state police spokesman Trooper Steven Nevel, neither Morgan nor Jones was wearing a seat belt. He did not know if airbags opened on impact.
