A mother appeared in court today to face murder charges after her teenage sons were found murdered and two other kids were in critical condition at a house in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

Sarah Barrass, 34, was charged following a “serious incident” last Friday. Her sons Tristan Barrass, 13, and Blake Barrass, 14, died after they were taken to hospital. The cause of death is not yet known but it is suspected they were poisoned.

According to reports, Barrass’ 13 and 14-year-old sons sent a message from a Nintendo Switch console to a friend saying they were “feeling sick” at 7 am. 30 minutes later, Police were called to a property in the Shiregreen area at around 7.30am and arrested Barrass along with Brandon Machin, 37. Both have been charged with murder.

Barrass is also accused of three counts of attempted murder against two other children.

Barrass and Machin appeared at Sheffield Magistrates today for a short hearing. They confirmed their names, ages, addresses and nationalities but did not enter a plea. Barrass, who sobbed as she entered the courtroom could be heard shouting as she left the dock.

No application was made for bail and the pair were remanded in custody to appear at Sheffield Crown Court tomorrow morning.
