Ex-Liverpool and Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso returns to first club Real Sociedad as reserve team coach
Former Spain midfielder, Xabi Alonso has agreed to take over as head coach of Real Sociedad‘s reserve team on a two-year contract.
The 37-year-old who enjoyed a trophy-laden career with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich came up through the youth team of the local club, Real Sociedad
He also helped Spain win the 2010 World Cup and two European Championship titles, before retiring from playing in 2017 and then heading to coach Real Madrid’s youth teams.
A statement on Sociedad’s official website read: ‘Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with Xabi Alonso to be the head coach of Sanse for the next two seasons.
‘The Tolosa-born coach, who joins from Real Madrid, returns home to be in charge of the Txuri Urdin reserve team.
‘Aitor Zulaika will not continue as Sanse’s head coach. Sanse’s new technical staff will be announced in the coming days.’
