#AFCON2019: Algeria defeat Ivory Coast; to face Nigeria in Semi Final

The Algerian defeated Ivory Coast in the quarter-final of the 2019 African Cup of Nations, AFCON in Egypt on Penalties to proceed to the semi-final, to face the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Sofiane Feghouli opened the scorecard in the 20th minute for the Algerian and The Greens were cruising in the first 45 minutes. The first half ended 1 goal to nothing in favour of the Algerian.

Three minutes into the second half The Greens were awarded a spot-kick but Baghdad Bounedjah couldn’t convert the chances and the game remained 1 goal to nothing before Jonathan Kodjia scored a wonder goal to level the match in the 62nd minute, this was the first gaol the Algerians have conceded in this tournament so far.

There were several chances for both teams to take the lead again but none was able to as the game headed to Extra time. After another 3o minutes of Extra time, the game headed to Penalty Kick.

The Algerians were the victors after 5 penalty kick from both teams, they won 4 – 3 on Penalties.

The Algerians will now face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the semi-final on Sunday 14th, July 2019 at 8:00 PM.
