DSS confirms arrest of Omoyele Sowore, accuses him of being in touch with 'foreign actors' to destabilise Nigeria

The Department of State Security Service (DSS) on Sunday, August 4, confirmed the arrest of the former Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore.

The Secret Police’s spokesperson Peter Afunaya confirmed this at a press briefing on Sunday in Abuja. Though Afunaya declined to comment on whether Mr Sowore is at their office in Lagos or Abuja, however, he claimed that the DSS is acting within its constitutional powers to arrest and detain anybody or group who threatens the unity and peaceful co-existence of Nigeria.

The DSS accused Sowore of being in touch with foreign actors to destabilise Nigeria and further stated that the call for revolution was deemed as a national security threat.

Recall LIB reported earlier that Sowore was arrested on Saturday, August 3, by operatives of the DSS at his Lagos residence over the proposed ‘Revolution’ protest scheduled for August 5.
