Van Dijk beats Messi and Ronaldo to win UEFA Men Player of the Year

Liverpool defender, Virgil Van Dijk has been named the UEFA player of the year beating Messi and Ronaldo to the prestigious award.

Van Dijk performance was outstanding last season for both his club and country. Van Dijk won the UEFA Champions League last season with Liverpool and only lost the English Premier League to Manchester City while for his national team, the Dutch made it to the final of the UEFA National League.

Virgil Van Dijk also won the UCL defender of the season, Barcelona’s Messi took home the UCL Best Forward of the Season award, Frenkie De Jong won the UCL midfielder of the season and  Liverpool’s Alisson Becker won the goalkeeper of the season.

This is another major individual trophy for the PFA Player of the Year.
