18-year-old Mother arrested for killing 1-day-old Baby in Jigawa

A mother, 18, has been arrested in Jigawa state for allegedly killing her 1-day-old baby boy.

The suspect, a resident of Dandabi village, reportedly had the baby from unwanted pregnancy. She then connived with her stepmother, who is now at large, to bury the corpse of the baby.

Neighbours became suspicious when they noticed the woman was no longer pregnant but there was no baby in sight. The police were alerted and they arrested the suspect and questioned her.

Their investigation revealed that on January 31, the suspect’s stepmother took her to a house where she was injected by medical personnel who is now also on the run.

The day after she was injected, the teen mom gave birth to a baby boy and he was reportedly killed then buried in a bush in Ringim Local Government Area of the state.

Following interrogation, the mother confessed to strangling her day-old baby to death and pointed them to where she buried the baby with help from her stepmother.

The child’s corpse was exhumed and taken to the hospital for a doctor’s analysis

Police have arrested the 18-year-old mother and the 20-year-old man from the same village who was responsible for the pregnancy. They have launched a manhunt to find the stepmother and the medical personnel who all played a role in the death of the baby boy.
