Angela Merkel first Coronavirus test result is Negative

Germany bans gatherings of more than two people to stop the spread of Coronavirus

German Chancellor, Angela Merkel who went into self-isolation after her doctor tested positive for coronavirus, has tested negative in the first test carried out on her.

Germany’s government spokesperson Steffen Seibert confirmed the test result and he told the German press agency DPA that more tests will be carried out.

He said;

“The test result of today’s test is negative. Further tests will be carried out in the next few days.”

A single negative test result does not necessarily mean a person is not carrying the virus, as the specimen might have been collected at a very early stage of the infection.

Merkel had on Friday afternoon received a vaccine shot against pneumococcus, a pneumonia-causing bacteria, from the doctor and went into quarantine on Sunday after learning of his positive test result.

Before going into self-isolation, Merkel said in a televised news briefing that Germany would ban public meetings of more than two people, amid a large number of further measures.

As of Monday, Germany registered 22,672 confirmed cases and 86 deaths, according to the country’s Robert Koch Institute.
