Nigeria has reported the first death of coronavirus, and the victim has been identified as Suleiman Achimugu.

Suleiman Achimugu, is a former Managing Director of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

According to SaharaReporters, he returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom two weeks ago, and started showing symptoms of the virus last Tuesday.

He eventually died around 2:00 am on Monday after coughing severely for the most part of Sunday.

The family in a press statement sent to The Guardian said: “he died of COVID 19 on 22/03/2020 some days after he arrived Nigeria from the UK.”

“He was in self isolation upon his return from the UK and personally called NCDC after experiencing some discomfort that are related to COVID 19 symptoms,” the family spokesman Abubakar Achimugu said in the statement.

“He tested positive and was promptly evacuated to the specialist hospital. He died while receiving treatment,” the statement added.

Online reports claim that a family source revealed that Suleiman Achimugu’s wife who works with the NNPC was in the Uk with him, and had been going to work.

The source further added that his family are currently under quarantine in their house.
