#Coronavirus: Reno Omokri says banks should be made to distribute COVID-19 Donations to Nigerians
Nigerian writer, former presidential adviser, and social critic, Reno Omokri has shared his opinion on the billions of naira donated to the government over the coronavirus pandemic situation in the country.
Over the past few days, wealthy Nigerians have announced their donations to the government.
While some donated to the government to assist the healthcare industry in charge of fighting this deadly infection, some donated to the government to help poor Nigerians who cannot fend for themselves during the lockdown happening across the country.
Reacting to the donations made by both individuals and organisations, social critic, Reno Omokri said that the donations should have been given to banks.
The former presidential adviser took to his page on the popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter, to state that the money donated by billionaires to Nigerians should have been given to top commercial banks to disburse it to Nigerians.
He noted that the billions donated could be distributed in thousands to Nigerians who have lesser than N10, 000 in their bank account. According to the lawyer, the current government cannot be trusted with the donations.
Instead of billionaires donating moneys to the FG, they could have given it to any top commercial bank and say ‘pay ₦10k to 100,000 Nigerians with less than ₦10k in their accounts’. You can’t trust donations to the government of General @MBuhari#FreeLeahSharibu #RenosNuggets
