Ganduje lifts total lockdown in Kano state
Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has announced the ease of total lockdown in the state, despite the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria.
Ganduje, who made the declaration during the state’s press briefing on coronavirus on Thursday, also directed civil servants from Level 12 and above to return to work beginning from Monday, 5th July.
Ganduje equally declared that commercial tricycles would henceforth be restricted to carry only two passengers.
The state’s Director-General, Media and Communications, Salihu Yakasai, also spoke about the move by Ganduje, stating that the nationwide 10 pm to 4 am curfew imposed by the Federal Government remained in place in the state.
“H.E @GovUmarGanduje removes the lockdown in Kano State which was imposed due to the coronavirus. However, a curfew is still in place from 10pm to 4am daily. This means people can go about their business from 4am to 10pm,” Yakasai wrote on Twitter.
On Wednesday, July 1, 2020, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 41 new cases in Kano. The new cases brought the number of confirmed cases in the state to 1,257.
Kano has the fourth-highest number of coronavirus cases in Nigeria. In the state, 52 coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded while 958 patients have recovered from the virus.
According to the state’s Ministry of Health, Kano had a total of 247 active cases of the infection as of Wednesday, July 1, 2020.
