Man arraigned in court for allegedly assaulting a 100 year old woman

Abdullahi Salisu, 27, who allegedly assaulted Bintu Adams, a 100-year-old woman was arraigned at the Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The prosecution counsel, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi alleged that the defendant perpetrated this crime on Sunday, August 16 around 3.45 pm at Sabo, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi told the court that the defendant and others, who are still at large, attacked Bintu Adams and inflicted injuries on her forehead.

He claimed that the defendant also attacked a 20-year-old housewife, one Mrs Usman Adamu.

The offence, he said, violated the provisions of sections 355 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2020.

The defendant was charged with three counts of conspiracy, assault and causing hurt, however, he pleaded not guilty.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Leke Dada, pleaded for the bail of the defendant in most Liberal terms.

Magistrate A. A. Ayeni granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like amount.

Ayeni ordered that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction and the addresses must be verified by the prosecutor.

He adjourned the hearing until Sept 24.
