NLC Suspends Nationwide Strike And Protest

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended the planned nationwide strike and protest that was slated for today, September 28, over the recent hike in electricity tariff and petrol pump price.

The strike was suspended after a mutual agreement was reached between the Federal Government and the organized labour in the early hours of Monday morning.

Both parties reached a consensus during the meeting which started on Sunday night and dragged on till the early hours of Monday morning. It was agreed that the new pump price will remain unchanged while the increase in electricity tariff will be suspended for two weeks.

According to the agreement, both parties agreed to set up a committee on Electricity Tariff reforms, comprising labour and government representatives, headed by Festus Keyamo to examine the justification of the new policy.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, made this disclosure via his Twitter account.

He tweeted,
