Benue State Local Government Staff Allegedly Sets Himself Ablaze Over Non-Payment Of 3-Years Allowance

An alleged Benue local government staff, reportedly set himself ablaze over non-payment of three years allowance, on Wednesday, December 9th.

The young man identified as Aondona Yaga was until his death, said to be a casual staff at the Gwer local government secretariat, Aliade.

It was learnt that Yaga got fed up after facing difficulty because he wasn’t paid his allowance for almost three years, and decided to end his life.

His grandmother who was seen around his abandoned corpse confirmed that the deceased had been facing difficulty as a result of his unpaid allowance.

She further revealed that Yaga fell sick and couldn’t find money to treat himself. Frustrated, he decided to end his life. On Wednesday morning.

He reportedly entered his thatched room on Wednesday morning, December 9th and set it on fire.

The Information Officer of Gwer Local Government, Mr Chris Avi has confirmed the incident but didn’t give further details.
