“Governor Wike gifting N10million to Burna Boy who is already a Millionaire is very wrong” – Man says
Damini Ogulu, AKA Burna Boy, Nigeria’s Grammy award-winning singer, staged a homecoming concert in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday, March 27. Burna Boy made history on Sunday, March, 14 when he won his first-ever Grammy award.
His ‘Twice As Tall’ 2020 album won the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category in the 63rd Grammy Awards.
The homecoming concert was reportedly organised by the Rivers state government to honour him over the global achievement.
The highlight of the concert, however, was Governor Nyesom Wike’s promise to give all the artists who performed at the event N10 million each.
According to BBC Pidgin, other artists who performed alongside the Grammy-winning singer at the concert which took place at EUI Event Centre, Sani Abacha Road GRA, Port Harcourt, include Duncan Mighty, Timaya, Omah Lay, and Nissi.
The footage where the Rivers state governor made the promise has gone viral on social media as many Nigerians criticize him for spending such a huge amount on the musicians while he allegedly owes teachers’ salaries.
It was also gathered that Governor Wike gifted the Grammy-winning artiste a piece of land and money to develop it.
Not long ago, a Nigerian man identified as FS Yesufu took to his Twitter page and dropped a statement that sparked reactions.
He stated that Wike gifting 10 million Naira to Burna boy who is already a Millionaire is very wrong. He said that people should save him the defence that the Governor could have done it from his personal pocket.
Yesufu revealed that he already know how Nigerian politician behave. He said if at this stage people can’t call black, black then we are deceiving ourselves.
He wrote:
“Wike gifting 10 million Naira to Burna boy who is already a millionaire is very wrong. Now save me that defence that he could possibly do it from his personal pocket. Fuck it! We know our politicians. If at this stage we can’t call black, black then we are deceiving ourselves.”
Social media users who came across the tweet shared by FS Yesufu reacted to it.
They called the gesture a waste of resources, not in a time like these when civil servants are living in poverty and masses are suffering, and our infrastructures are in shambles.
They added that such money should have been channelled to development and not for political purpose.
