Nigerian Basketball Federation slams American TV Personality, Stephen Smith over his Comment on Nigerian players who beat the U.S team

The Nigerian basketball team has slammed ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith after he disrespected Nigerian players following the USA’s loss to the Nigeria team.

Speaking on “First Take”, Stephen deliberately insulted Nigerian basketball players as he says their names are irrelevant after America was beaten 90-89.

On Monday, July 12, also made an offensive comment about Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani.

In the process of slamming the U.S. basketball team for losing to Nigeria, Stephen said “There’s no excuse to lose to Nigeria. [To lose to] some dude Gabe Nnamdi, who goes by Gabe Vincent for the Miami Heat. Or Caleb Agada. Or Nma … however the hell you pronounce his name.”

Reacting to the comments, Nigerians have taken to social media to slam Stephen as they demand an apology for his condescending statement.

Also, the Nigerian Basketball Federation condemned Stephen’s comment via Twitter states; “You can lament your loss without slandering the players who gave blood and sweat to grind out a win. Put some respect to their names.”

Some of the Nigerian Basketball team also reacted to Stephen’s condescending comment as they tell him to respect their name.
