Sir Victor Uwaifo dead at 80

Legendary Nigerian Singer and Guitarist, Sir Victor Uwaifo has died, close sources to the family have confirmed to The Nation. Victor Uwaifo died after a brief illness.

The singer recently celebrated his 80th birthday in March with friends and family all around him, celebrating his new age.

The ‘Guitar boy’ as he was fondly called is the first professional musician to be awarded the National Merit Honors of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).

Uwaifo was also the first Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism in Nigeria.
