At least 30 people dead after terrorists set bus ablaze in Sokoto

Terrorists set fire to a bus carrying between 24 to 30 passengers in Nigeria’s Sokoto state on Monday, police, and residents confirmed.

In the previous year, the terrorists, known locally as bandits, have carried out brutal attacks against villagers and commuters travelling on highways, as well as kidnapping hundreds of schoolchildren for ransom in the northern part of the country.

According to Sanusi Abubakar, a spokesman for the Sokoto Police Command, the bus was carrying 24 passengers when it was set alight by armed men and that seven individuals escaped with injuries and were taken to hospital.

However, two people who arrived on the scene and assisted in the recovery of the victims claimed that the bus was overcrowded and that the bodies had been burned beyond recognition.

The bandits reportedly opened fire on the bus before setting it on fire.

They counted at least 30 people’s body parts, including women and children.

The villagers were attacked on a road between the Sabon Birni local government region and the village of Gidan Bawa, according to residents.
