Alleged Blasphemy: Police confirms arrest of two over the killing of Sokoto female student

The police on Thursday confirmed that at least two persons have been arrested over the killing of a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education.

Reports from the police state that the deceased, identified as Deborah Samuel – a level-two student, was accused of making a social media post that blasphemed Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

According to the police, the mob forcefully removed the deceased from the security room where she was hidden by the school authorities, killed her and burnt the building.

Several videos shared on social media show the mob stoning and beating a lifeless body in red attire.

Another footage also captured a raging fire with a man facing the camera and claiming that he killed and burnt Deborah.

The police vowed that the suspects in the viral video on Twitter were spotted and will be nailed soon, according to a statement signed by police spokesperson in Sokoto, Sanusi Abubakar.

According to Mr Abubakar, the school has been shut down and additional police personnel deployed to the area.
