The governorship election in Benue state has been declared inconclusive.

The Collation officer, Professor Sebastine Maimako, announced this at the state collation centre located within the INEC headquarters in Makurdi this afternoon.

Maimako said the election was declared inconclusive based on the fact the 121,011 eligible voters were either not able to vote or election did not hold in their areas.

He said that the incumbent governor, Samuel Ortom of the PDP scored the highest number of votes of 410,576 and is closely followed by Emmanuel Jime of the APC who polled a total number of 329,022 votes.

He said a new date would be announced for a rerun within 21 days.
