“You seemed to know” – Mourners share signs that make them believe Prof. Pius Adesanmi knew his time was near
Nigeria and the entire world has been thrown into mourning after citizens of 35 different countries died in the Ethiopian Airlines plane crash.
Nigeria lost two brilliant minds in the crash – Amb. Abiodun Bashua and Prof. Pius Adesanmi.
Pius Adesanmi, 46, who was a household name in Nigeria’s literary sphere, has been mourned by Nigerians on social media, most of who knew him personally and had beautiful stories to tell about him.
Recalling the moments leading up to his death, most of Mr Adesanmi’s friends seem to be convinced he knew his time was near. His last Facebook post, the epitaph he wrote for himself, and other actions he took before his death, seem to point to the fact that he lived prepared to die.
Friends, while mourning him, pointed out certain things he did which they believe were signs.
His last Facebook post was one of those things that his friends now consider a mystery.
His last post reads:
If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost part of the sea even there your hand shall lead me and your right hand shall hold me.
It was also revealed that just two days before his death, he appointed new admin members to handle an exclusive Facebook group he created in 2017.
Friends also shared an epitaph Mr Adesanmi wrote to be engraved in his future tombstone when he dies. The epitaph was written in August 2013 for the African Writing magazine.
The epitaph reads: “…Pius Adesanmi who tried as much as he could to put his talent in the service of humanity and flew away home one bright morning when his work was over.”
Also, the columnist never missed an opportunity to remind his friends and those whose lives he has impacted to look out for his daughter, Tise, when he’s no longer here.
He once wrote: “I am at an age now where I should be confident that should anything happen to me and I quit this realm eternally, somebody like you would go out of your way to find Tise and worry about her welfare.”
Prof. Pius Adesanmi cheated death months ago when he survived a major road accident in Nigeria last year. Sadly, he failed to cheat death a second time.
He is survived by his wife Muyiwa, daughter Tise, and mother Lois Adesanmi.
