Kano Assembly passes bill to create FOUR NEW EMIRATES

A bill for the creation of four additional first class Emirates has been passed by the Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday.

This was during their sitting which also saw the approval of the amendment of the local government and chieftaincy affairs law by the lawmakers.

A committee set up aims to establish the emirates which would facilitate more development to the people, as well as provide security in the respective areas.

If the bill gets passed into law, it will pave the way for the decentralisation of the Kano Emirate council thereby reducing the number of the emirates under the influence of the sitting Emir of Kano.

The State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has vowed to assent to the bill, giving the assurance while speaking to newsmen on Wednesday ahead of the 136th executive council meeting.

“We heard about a Bill forwarded to the State House of Assembly , requesting them to enact a law for the creation of four more emirs in Kano.

“We believe those that did this did it with good intention . And they want the development of the state”, he said.

SaharaReporters had exclusively reported step by step plans by Ganduje to dethrone the reigning Emir of Kano HRH Sanusi II over a call by Sanusi for free and fair elections in the state.
